Below are the three main considerations of determining when to clip, while on lead:

1. Where you are clipping in relation to your body.

2. Clipping above your head, versus clipping by your waist.

3. Whether to clip the rope before a crux, or after a crux

The ideal place to clip a quickdraw, relative to your body while climbing, is between your shoulders and your waist. Attempting to clip anywhere above your head increases the fall potential.
