A WONDERFUL Whiskey! || Teeling Wonders of Wood Swedish Oak Edition

Описание к видео A WONDERFUL Whiskey! || Teeling Wonders of Wood Swedish Oak Edition

What a wonderful Whiskey!

First off, I will say that this bottle was kindly provided to me by Teeling Whiskey, but this has not impacted my review and does not mean that Teeling have any influence over the content of the video.

This is the third edition of Teeling’s “Wonders of Wood” series, where they are exploring the influence that virgin wood from different regions can have on whiskey. The previous editions were favourably received, and highlighted virgin Chinkapin oak from North America and virgin Portuguese oak, while this one is highlighting the influence of Swedish oak.

Swedish oak is a slow-growing wood which is occasionally used for aging Swedish wines and spirits. The slow growth means a tighter wood grain, which should impart dense spicy notes. The whiskey itself a single pot still Irish whiskey, distilled at the Teeling Distillery in Dublin, and was aged exclusively in those Virgin Swedish oak casks for almost 7 years.

The mashbill was Teeling’s classic pot still style of 50% malted barley and 50% unmalted barley, which should balance the spice and oiliness of unmalted barley with the caramelised biscuit notes of the malted barley.

It comes in at 50% ABV, is natural colour and non-chill filtered. The release was launched on the 29th of May and is relatively limited at 32,000 bottles, which are available from Teeling themselves, and will be making their way through retailers over the coming weeks.

Teeling Wonders of Wood Swedish Oak Edition Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Immediately, there's lots of candied ginger and ginger spice, with caramelised brown sugar, oak spice and some bright, slightly tart citrus, like a grapefruit or blood orange.

Palate:
There's still ginger on the palate, but it's definitely sweeter, with more of the citrus and oak from the nose, but leaning a bit softer and creamier, almost like a high cocoa milk chocolate. There's still the classic pot still mouthfeel and peppery spice, which becomes more and more apparent on the second and third sips

Finish:
The finish is relatively long, with the creamy notes lasting long after the oak and pepper notes fade

Ultimately, we both enjoyed this whiskey, the Swedish Oak, despite being virgin oak, was not overpowering, allowing the character of the whiskey to still shine through, highlighted by the sweet and spicy notes coming from the oak.

I'm a total whiskey nerd and this channel is all about Whiskey, Whisky, Bourbon, Rye, Pot Still Whiskey and Single Malt Whiskey. I'm always on the hunt for the best whiskey and love making whiskey review videos. My passion is for Irish whiskey, but I'm open to looking for the best Bourbon or the best scotch too!

I'm an Irishman, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying whiskeys from all around the world, from Kentucky bourbon to Japanese single malts. I also love making cocktails, especially whiskey cocktails (or whisky cocktails) and really enjoy taking a classic recipe and adding my own twist to it, or making simple, 3 ingredient cocktails

Make sure to subscribe for reviews every Wednesday and cocktail recipes every Friday!
