Today, I am so excited that I got to have my first live, in-person, fully-vaccinated interview with my friend, Nikki! Nikki is a pediatric physical therapist who originally dreamed of becoming a genetic counselor. She applied to genetic counseling school for 2016 and did not get a spot. This was the biggest rejection of her life, but she picked up the pieces, made a plan, and began to prepare for the next cycle of genetic counseling applications. To build up experience she shadowed a variety of other healthcare providers including a physical therapist. As Nikki learned more about physical therapy, she learned that it was actually a better fit for her than genetic counseling. Since her rejection from GC school, she has already completed her doctorate in physical therapy and is currently working as a school-based physical therapist out of Colorado! I am so proud of her and feel like she has really found the perfect career fit.
