(23 Oct 2020) Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris campaigned Friday in Atlanta with a focus on Black voters who will prove pivotal in deciding the outcome in Georgia and other battleground states.
She told students at Spelman College, an HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) that "when we vote, we win."
"Don't let anybody ever take you out of the game," she said.
Harris greeted the audience with Killer Mike, a well-known Atlanta rapper and activist, with whom Harris spoke earlier in the day about drug laws and criminal justice.
During her visit to Atlanta, Harris defended her record as a prosecutor and promised that a Joe Biden White House would push to “decriminalize marijuana” and “expunge” the records of Americans convicted under current federal laws.
She also said that she and her running mate, Joe Biden favor spending some $70 billion dollars on HBUCs.
Harris ended her remarks with the students by strongly criticizing efforts to make it more difficult to vote.
"Why would they take such time and go through such effort," she asked.
"Because they know your power," she said. "They know your power."
