Natasha Danish Iqbal, a woman at the center of a tragic accident on Karachi’s Karsaz Road, has become a topic of intense discussion on social media. Three days ago, she was involved in an incident where her Land Cruiser struck and killed a father and daughter. As her lawyer claims she is mentally ill, public outrage has demanded the strictest possible punishment under Pakistani law.
Amidst this controversy, an image of Natasha making a victory sign with a group of lawyers behind her went viral. The photo was portrayed as if she was making this gesture outside the court. However, it has now been revealed that the image is entirely fake—it was created using artificial intelligence (AI). Unfortunately, it spread across social media without proper verification, leading users to raise questions and express outrage.
Prominent journalists like Hamid Mir and Asma Shirazi also shared this image initially. However, upon learning of its falsehood, Asma Shirazi promptly deleted the post and issued an apology. Similarly, Hamid Mir removed the image from his Twitter account without further comment. Journalist Wajahat Kazmi criticized those who couldn’t distinguish between AI-generated and real images while simultaneously criticizing state institutions on sensitive matters.
