Cleaning up the garden at the end of the growing season is one of the easiest things we can do to reduce pressure from pests, diseases and weeds the following season, yet garden cleanup is something many gardeners fail to do well. While some plants, like leafy greens and legumes, are great to let slowly decay and refeed your soil over the winter, there are some plants that should be removed from your garden and not composted on top of your garden soil or in a cold compost pile.

In this video, we cover the plants you shouldn't compost and should be completely removed from your yard. Removing these plants at the end of the season will reduce garden pests, reduce garden weeds and reduce garden diseases the following year.

Please note if you're making garden compost with hot composting, you CAN hot compost these things in a hot compost bin because hot composting will destroy seeds, pest eggs and diseases. Just don't use cold composting.
