This video demonstrates EZ-USB® FX3™ a general USB 3.0 USB controller. This demo shows the maximum throughput the FX3 is capable of between the processor and USB port, otherwise known as the P and U port.

Here we have our FX3 DVK Kit and it is connected through a USB 3.0 to the 3.0 analyzer. And we have a USB 3.0 generator connected to that. The reason why we are doing this is because we want to first of all be able to measure the throughput on the USB and then we also want to have an ideal USB host. Windows 7 is far from ideal with a USB 3.0 driver stack which is going to be improved in Windows 8 which is designed for USB 3.0.

Over here we have our FPGA set up. This set up is connected to the P port which is where you would connect your applications processor or ASIC or FPGA in your own design. The interface we're using here is Asynch Slave FIFO 2-bit interface. You can use your own interface either designed by Cypress or with GPIF™ II Designer. We also have 32 data lines in this interface, all of them running at 100 MHz. If you do the math you'll see that that's 400 Mb/s theoretical maximum with this demo it's about 380.

Over here we have a laptop. This laptop is not actually receiving any of the USB 3.0 data. We're just using USB 2 to control both the Ellisys boxes. These Ellisys boxes one will be here, that's the host which we'll be able to control and over here we will monitor the analyzer box and see the throughput.
