The US wants to rewrite its defense agreement with Denmark to remove limits on its military presence in Greenland, according to people familiar with the matter.

American negotiators want to rework the language to ensure the US faces no restrictions as it makes its plans, with President Trump saying the US will have "all military access that we want" and "total access" to Greenland.

NATO will bolster its Arctic presence with a new mission called "Arctic Sentry" to protect a vital part of NATO territory. The mission was announced after US President Donald Trump triggered an alliance crisis over his attempts to take Greenland, a territory of NATO ally Denmark.
