MPV Meets SUV: FIAT 500L Cross Review

Let’s be honest, MPVs have fallen out of favour as many buyers have moved to SUVs, but what if you want an mini MPV that looks a bit SUV-ish? Well FIAT has the answer for you with the new 500L Cross. Starting from £18,195, the Cross is more rugged than the standard 500L, thanks to a raised ride heigh and SUV inspired styling.

The mode tested here is a bit more though (over £21,000 in fact), as it has the more powerful petrol engine, as well as a few options such as navigation and smartphone connectivity. Standard equipment includes automatic lights and wipers, 7" infotainment system, cruise control, 17" and a drive mode selector to name but a few.

There is a choice of 4 engines available - two petrol and two diesel. The petrols are both a 1.4 litre unit, only the less powerful one (94bhp) is naturally aspirated, whereas the more powerful unit (118hp) is turbocharged. The two diesels are also turbocharged; the 1.3 litre offers 94bhp whilst the 1.6 offers 118bhp.

It may look rough and ready, but this model is offered in front wheel drive only, however, it does come with mud and snow tyres as well as drive mode selector.
