This has been a brutal year for our garden! While the decision to use garden fabric this year has saved us from the troubles of weeding, we still had to deal with the intense summer heat and now the pests! Next year, I'll focus much more on companion planting which should help with that.

While the garden isn't entirely destroyed, I have to admit I'm starting to feel a bit defeated. All the hours and sweat (and hundreds of gallons of water) poured into the garden have so far only provided us a single zucchini squash and a few cucumbers! It would've been far cheaper, easier, and more plentiful taking a trip to the grocery store, but that doesn't come with the joy of simply being outdoors in the dirt. I'm hopeful we'll still at least get a plentiful bounty of pumpkins for the halloween season, but I would've much preferred a harvest we could enjoy for dinner.

The growing season isn't over yet so we'll see how it actually ends. Regardless, there are many lessons learned here and I'll always look forward to doing it again the next year, hopefully better than the year before!
