Midsommar is a 2019 film written and directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgren, and Will Poulter. A co-production between the United States and Sweden, the film was initially pitched as a straightforward film set amongst Swedish cultists. Aster devised a screenplay using elements of the concept but made a deteriorating relationship the central conflict after he had experienced a difficult breakup. The film was shot on location in Budapest in the summer and autumn of 2018.

Midsommar was theatrically released in the United States on July 3, 2019 by A24 and in Sweden on July 10, 2019 by Nordisk Film. The film received positive reviews from critics, with many praising Aster's direction and Pugh's performance.

The plot revolves around a protagonist named "Dani" who receives news of her sister's death via mailbox. "Dani" becomes upset, so her male friend "Chris" takes her to a party to console her, where they meet his other friend, who tells them about a village festival held every few years. Finally, "Dani," "Chris," and a friend travel to the festival. A strange ritual is revealed by a local cult there. When a person reaches the age of 72, he or she prefers to end their life rather than die naturally. The same thing can be seen in an elderly couple who do the same thing while jumping off a mountain. "Dani" wishes to leave this place, but her friend forbids her, and his friend also did some bad things while purifying the cult's special tree.

The festival begins with girls being given special drinks and becoming inebriated. Also, a girl who continues to dance until the end will be declared the winner. And "Dani" is declared the winner, and she is crowned queen. She is now permitted to select a man for some evil objectives in the festival. As a queen, "Dani" chooses "Chris" for vengeance, and a smile can be seen on her face near the end of the film. The film's ending is made more mysterious by the action.
