In the past, the Changhua, Nantou, and Yunlin areas primarily relied on groundwater for their water supply. However, with population growth and industrial development, these areas experienced excessive groundwater extraction, leading to land subsidence along both coastal and inland regions. As a result, in recent years, new water sources have been actively planned in the Changhua, Nantou, and Yunlin areas, including the construction of the Niaozuitan Artificial Lake, Jiji Weir, North and South Bank Connecting Channels, Douliu Main Canal, Linnei Water Purification Station, Linnei Water Diversion Works, offshore industrial park tailwater pool, Tongtou Weir, Hushan Reservoir, and Hushan Water Purification Station. These facilities not only supply water to the Yunlin area and allocate resources to support Changhua and Chiayi but also aim to mitigate the issue of land subsidence.
