Описание к видео SpaceX CRS-12 Falcon 9 Rocket Launch, Landing with Sonic Boom

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (News 6 WKMG-TV 8-14-2017) - A delivery of science, supplies and a supercomputer is on its way to the International Space Station Monday afternoon.

A SpaceX Falcon 9 blasted off into clear sky at 12:31 p.m. with a Dragon capsule from Kennedy Space Center's launch pad 39A.

The launch marked the 12th resupply mission, known as CRS -12, sent up by SpaceX for the space station. The Dragon spacecraft was filled with almost 6,000 pounds of supplies, including more than 250 science experiments and supplies for the six crew members.

The CRS-12 Dragon will be the last new capsule launched to the Space Station. All future re-supply missions will use restored, previously flown Dragon space capsules.

Post-launch, SpaceX successfully landed the first stage of the rocket back at Landing Zone 1 in Cape Canaveral. The landing became the 14th booster recovery for the company.

The six live-in astronauts will also get a sweet treat with this round of supplies, thanks to some spare freezer space: cups of vanilla, chocolate and birthday cake ice cream.

U.S. students about to start their junior year of high school have never lived a day without astronauts on the space station above Earth. Currently, the international residents on the orbiting laboratory are astronauts from Russia, Europe and the U.S.

The mission will also deliver a supercomputer built by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, dubbed the "Spaceborne Computer." If it works, it could be the most powerful commercial, off-the-shelf computer ever to operate in space.

Astronauts aboard the space station already have a bunch of devices you'd find at your local electronics store, including HP laptops. But a supercomputer is something different. It's a much more powerful piece of hardware that can crunch massive amounts of data and send the results to other computers in just moments.

According to Mark Fernandez, the HPE engineer who is heading up this new experiment, the space-bound supercomputer will have the ability to make one trillion calculations in a single second -- about 30 to 100 times more powerful than your average desktop computer.
