Middle NZ Vol 05 F

5. Thanks to a good friend who shot these videos around the lower North Island and upper South Island at the beginning of the 21st century. He wishes to remain anonymous but has made them available to me for editing and upload to You Tube.

This video was made on a DV handycam. Looking back a couple of decades there is just so much has changed in the middle region that these videos have become a fantastic record of railways back then.

It was about this time that most New Zealand was moving to widescreen TV which in turn was the reason for some files being set in the older 4:3 aspect while others were testing 16:9 which before long became the standard for both professional and amateur videography....

The photography is awesome and these videos are a good record of "The Twins" era with many other shots of several liveries and lots of freight and passenger headed by Dc and Dx action still in the North Island.

These pre 2016 earthquake days has lots of "Pulp Train" action as well. Many changes were forced into being after the Wellington Port was badly damaged, this included forestry products.

I really like those Thorndon hills easy access locations, I have only been there a few times but it is one of my favourite spots. Some more great shots of not only the Wellington yards action but also freights and metro traffic heading in and out on various lines.

Near the end are some shots of the then refurbished EO class electric locos which looked resplendent in their new colours and working with the green passenger stock testing on the Hutt line .....
