Some facts.
The Canadian black wolf is a subspecies of the common wolf. In contrast, it is often black in color, but can be gray or white. The length of his body (including tail) can reach 160 cm, height at the withers up to 90 cm; body weight up to 62 kg. In general appearance, the wolf resembles a large, pointy-eared dog. As a rule, they live in a flock, which makes it possible to hunt large prey. A wolf cannot develop great speed, but it can run for a long time. A pack can easily drive and kill an elk weighing half a ton (and this despite the fact that one wolf weighs ten times less). This requires strength, determination and coordination, so that when hunting, the laws of the pack are rewarded to the wolves a hundredfold. Canadian wolves communicate with each other not only using marks, but also by howling. If one pack runs into another, losses cannot be avoided, and therefore the wolves howl the surrounding area, informing others of their approach. One wolf begins to howl, and the others echo him. When chasing prey, wolves howl, notifying their brethren of their location. The wolf in traditional European heraldry is considered a symbol of defeated greed, anger and gluttony. Placed in coats of arms as a sign of victory over a greedy and evil enemy.

Life expectancy is 7–10 years. In captivity, their lifespan increases to 18 years or more. The Canadian black wolf often forms hybrids with the largest wolf in the New World, the Mackensee plains wolf.
