Ahead of the EU referendum on June 23 2016, in conjunction with Verisona Law and The News we hosted an EU hustings in the Atrium of 1000 Lakeside.

A panel of political experts and local business leaders took questions from the public with Immigration being a key topic. A Portsmouth resident asked whether the UK could take more immigrants.

Kevin Briscoe, of PR firm Briscoe French, said: ‘They are generating income which should be spent on the sort of infrastructure that some parts of the country are crying out for.’ But Cllr Jones said the UK had to gain control of its borders.

The Remain panel included Labour Leader Cllr John Ferrett, Cllr Hugh Mason, Kevin Briscoe from Briscoe French and University Academic Graham Heaney.

The Brexit panel included leader of Portsmouth City Council Cllr Donna Jones, Cllr Jim Fleming, South-East chairman of Business for Britain Ian Brown & William Hynett CEO of Britten-Norman.
