Colossians

Do you remember when Jesus spoke to the Law experts in John chapter 5? He said that they were very zealous in studying those Scriptures, but they had fallen into the trap of thinking that the Law itself could give them life. Those Scriptures were always talking about Jesus - but they refused to come to Jesus to get life.

If there was ever something that people might imagine could take the place of Jesus it could only ever be that ancient system of Law given by the LORD God Himself! YET... even that had to step down and be packed away when Jesus had done His mighty work of death, resurrection and ascension.

The Colossians were always in danger of getting distracted away from Jesus by the wonderful and the weird... and so, of course, they were getting caught up into aspects of this ancient Law system, giving their attention to the Law rather than Jesus.

So, in Colossians 2:11-23 Paul shows them that Jesus is the reality that the Law was giving pictures of.
