On this weeks episode of the Notseen Ninja Bathroom Book Club we read the latest in the Hard Luck Hank series, Robot Farts. This is the sixth book in this absurdly funny series by Steven Campbell, and it holds up with the others. While I didn't think that it was as good as far as character development, action, or even as funny, it still had enough of the classic Hard Luck Hank elements that it was a worthwhile read. It almost felt like this one was rushed or just a non-fleshed out idea.

The Hark Luck Hank series is about a giant mutant that just can't get anything right. He was a thug for hundreds of years, but at the same time was an enforcer of the laws aboard the space station Belvaille. Nothing he ever does ends up the way intended, and that is where the Hard Luck part of his name comes in. This book takes place after the fifth book, of course, after the Colmarian Confederation fell and became the PCC, the Post Colmarian Confederation Colmarian Confederation...which is repeated many times -- half of which are eye rolling times and the other half are actually funny. He is just trying to be good in this one, but the Ontankians (his race of people that whose planet were destroyed centuries ago but a few still remain) had other plans for him. We still have all the same characters with Garm, MTB, Dolovo, and Cliston; but they all seem to have more of a supporting role instead of being up front and centre. We even still have Gun, a gun without a trigger that has to be told to shoot, but have the time it wants to get into philosophical discussions...Gun is one of my favourite characters/inanimate objects.

If you are in the mood for a book that you don't have to think about, a book that you can just read and laugh along an absurd adventure, I definitely recommend the Hard Luck Hank series.
