Some South African authors often lament the slow pace of marketing and distribution of their books and blame their publishers. Although some prefer to publish on their own, at times it doesn't work out well. Some authors use the traditional ways of publishing and it works for them. For example, South African author Masande Ntshanga's acclaimed literary novel, THE REACTIVE, is making waves locally and abroad. German publisher Verlag das Wunderhorn has acquired the rights to publish this book in Germany. The deal comes after the announcement that North American rights to Ntshanga's novel have been bought by US publisher, Two Dollar Radio. Ntshanga is a Caine-prize nominated author and winner of the 2013 Pen International New Voices Award.
He has received a Fulbright award, a Mellon Mays Foundation fellowship, and a Civitella Ranieri fellowship.
