(28 Sep 2018) College students have been closely watching Thursday's dramatic hearing on sexual assault allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Yale University student Suranjan Sen said he found the testimony by both Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, to be compelling. Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault while they were high schoolers. Kavanaugh denied the allegation.
"This is part of what makes these kinds of cases such heart wrenching because," Sen said. "Oftentimes it comes down to he said, she said."
Tulane University student Karli Wells, who described herself as a survivor of sexual assault, said she can understand why Ford waited so long to come forward. "I can't imagine wanting to sort of bring that forward if I didn't have to," she said.
Another Tulane student, Ben Ozur, said Kavanaugh made a strong point about due process. "Really all we have today is not so much evidence but more so testimony, which, you know, since it was so long ago," he said. "It's not incredibly credible, although they sound very confident in their answers."
