Take a 2 1/2 minute car ride through the small, beautiful Austrian town of Scharnitz.

Scharnitz sits on the Seefeld plateau at the head of a valley on the Austrian side of the Austria-Germany border. This town was situated on a strategic Roman route from Germany leading south to Rome. In the 1600's a fortress, Porta Claudia, was built to defend from northern invasion. During the Napoleonic Wars the fortress fought but gave way to an invading French force.
