At long last, we are expecting the Commonwealth to rest after finishing the examination of Dr. Irini Scordi-Bello, the medical examiner who performed John's autopsy and so far hasn't given any opinion about where John's injuries were or could have been caused by a car accident. Because it's not clear that her testimony is all that damaging, I'm not anticipating much of a cross-examination. After the series of strange strategic calls that have characterized the Commonwealth's case from day 1, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the decision to end on this weak note. It's likely that the defense will move to dismiss the murder charge for lack of evidence once the Commonwealth rests, but that motion will almost certainly be denied due to the extremely low bar the legal standard establishes for the case to go forward to the jury. After that, the defense will begin to present its case and the world will be watching to see if Mr. Yanetti keeps the promises he made in his opening statement.
