Tracklisting will go here eventually I'll do it later. This is not the final version of this video. I'm going to rinse it with overlays, spice it up a little.

WELL... jeez. Yes, we did make a shitload of cover art for this album. Phew. My brain is mush. Many good things came out of this project, though. Sometimes the process of getting somewhere can be frustrating, monotonous, and time-consuming, but when you finally decide that good enough is good enough, you look back at the art trail you left behind and think, "Holy shit... I did that? Coooool."

While attempting to nail the perfect image that continued our Retrospective theme (a musician-looking person sitting in a golden-hour-lit living room, progressively falling deeper into the rabbit hole of being a bedroom electronic music producer), I kept bouncing around ideas, and none of the themes, prompts, or art styles were really satisfying me (or Manton). I kept plugging away, and by the end, I was experimenting with so many different art styles, mediums, and subjects, I think I broke something in my brain. I spent hours and hours amassing all of this content, and now... now I have TOO MANY choices.

Good thing for deadlines. Deadlines are necessary sometimes because they force us to say, "Well, I need to finish this now, and I'm exhausted, so I'm just going to make my best guess and move forward." This was about when I was reaching critical mass; Manton was putting a little pressure on wrapping things up, and that was about the moment I threw my hands up and asked him, "CAN WE PLEASE JUST FCKIN' CHOOSE A GDDAMN COVER ALREADY?!"

Or wait, maybe it was the other way around, and he said it to me? 🤯

Where I'm getting to with all this is that by the time I finished the art production side of things on Retro3, I had produced over 1,100 images of people jamming out on synths in their living rooms. Some are awful, and some are absolutely wonderful. Through us being our own versions of hyper-analytical and the direction of this subject matter taking a rather different path than any of us expected, it felt good when we eventually made up our minds. I know we didn't rush it, just like we try not to rush any of these releases because putting out top-notch material has always been our game. We might not be perfect, but we damn well try. And we're satisfied for the most part. At least I am.

So anyway, guys, I have sooo much of this digital art now, and I can't just toss it or let it sit in a folder forever... I might as well make a compilation video so that anyone interested can get a turbo-paced glimpse at how many drafts I went through before we found the right one. Because don't get me wrong, I may sound like I'm bitching and moaning a lot here, but I learned a lot of valuable things along the way:

AI image prompting and multiple facets of digital art and design in general,
How to do a little coding with Python,
The names, history, and aspects of at least two dozen different art styles I was previously unaware of, and
I am SO much more fluent with hotkeys in GIMP now.
This is all stuff I want to continue to get better at, so I'm happy to have done this, and I'm happy to have made this little video too because I learned a lot making it. And that's what IDM Forums and, ultimately, Glitch Pulser are all about! I am one of the longest-running members on the forum, and I don't think I would be anywhere close to where I'm at now (which isn't even that far — to me) without the endless wealth of knowledge and resources that a community of like-minded people has provided for me.

We are passionate about music, especially the music we and our friends make and the music we release at Glitch Pulse Records, previously IDMf Netlabel. I/we know if you listen to our music, you probably share the same musical passions. So I dedicate this plethora of rough draft album cover images to [YOU], because without your support and love after all these years, I wouldn’t be able to do this. But I'd probably do it anyway. Thanks for listening! Enjoy!

Sincerely,
Wayne Timothy Baker
