Disney’s upcoming reboot of Malcolm in the Middle, featuring the return of Bryan Cranston and Frankie Muniz, has the potential to finally resolve a long-standing mystery from the original series. The classic sitcom originally aired on Fox for seven seasons, totaling 151 episodes. Now, Disney is reviving it with a modern twist in a limited four-episode format—essentially the length of a feature film. Most of the original main cast will return, including Justin Berfield, Christopher Masterson, and Jane Kaczmarek. However, Erik Per Sullivan, who famously portrayed Dewey, will not be part of the revival.

Malcolm in the Middle was one of the most acclaimed sitcoms of the 2000s, earning seven Emmy Awards, including honors for Outstanding Directing and Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series. Cloris Leachman, who won two Emmys for her role as Grandma Ida, will not return for the reboot, having passed away in January 2021 at the age of 94. The original series creator and showrunner, Linwood Boomer, is back to write the four-episode Disney revival. While an official release date hasn't been announced yet, the series is expected to premiere later this year.
