Mahatma Gandhi Central University (MGCU), a Central University located in Motihari, East Champaran, Bihar, has officially released the Ph.D. Admission Notification for the Academic Year 2025-26. Interested and eligible candidates must apply online through the SAMARTH Portal starting from November 24, 2025 (Monday). The crucial last date for online submission is December 26, 2025 (Friday). MGCU invites applications for a total of 178 seats across 19 teaching departments, including Science (Biotechnology-10, Botany-13, Zoology-4, Chemistry-17, Mathematics-11, Physics-27), Commerce & Management (Commerce-10, Management Sciences-6), ICT (Computer Science-10, Library & Information Sciences-4), and Humanities & Social Sciences (Media Studies-12, Educational Studies-6, English-9, Hindi-8, Sanskrit-8, Gandhian and Peace Studies-8, Political Science-3, Social Work-5, Sociology-7). Eligibility mandates a minimum of 55% marks in the Master's degree (or 75% for a 4-year UG degree), with a 5% relaxation provided for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD). Admission is categorized into three types based on UGC-NET scores: Category 1 (Ph.D. with JRF & Assistant Professor), Category 2 (Ph.D. without JRF & Assistant Professor), and Category 3 (Ph.D. only). Candidates with a valid JRF prior to 2025 are eligible. For admission under Category 2 and 3, qualifying in UGC-NET/CSIR/GATE/GPAT in the December 2024 or June 2025 cycle is mandatory; those who cleared only NET prior to December 2024 are NOT eligible. The selection process follows a combined merit list, giving 70% weightage to valid test scores and 30% weightage to the Interview. The non-refundable application fee is Rs. 500/- for General/OBC/EWS and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PwBD candidates. The total fee payable at the time of admission is Rs. 26,750/- for Science departments (Biotechnology, Botany, Zoology, Physics & Chemistry) and Rs. 24,750/- for all other departments.
