#ChennaiOlympicConnect 6 - A person from Chennai participated in three Olympic Games and won a gold medal in each. Also known as Aranganathan, he was born R Manickam in Burma in 1920. The family moved to Madras during WWII where he converted to Christianity and became Francis. Noticed for his skill in athletics and sports, he found employment in the Police. Playing hockey for Madras Police, Francis became part of the Indian hockey team. He played in three successive Olympics – London in 1948, Helsinki in 1952 and Melbourne in 1956, under the captaincy of Dhyan Chand. And in all three, India won the gold medal. He retired from the police in 1968 and passed away in Chennai in 1975.
