Om Namah Shivaya
Om Namah Shivaya
---
This is the hymn of sacred flame,
Ravana’s praise of Shiva’s name.
*Om Namah Shivaya*
---
From matted locks, the Ganga springs,
A sacred tide through heaven sings.
With serpents twined around his throat,
He dances, worlds in rhythm float.
His hair, a storm of cosmic streams,
The crescent moon in silver gleams.
His third eye burns with fiery might,
Consuming sin in blazing light.
With Parvati, his radiant bride,
He whirls through voids where stars abide.
His glance, a balm for souls in pain,
Restores the lost to grace again.
Adorned with ashes, snakes, and gems,
His form all worlds in awe overwhelms.
Each step resounds through time and space,
Creation’s pulse in his embrace.
The gods in awe, their crowns they bend,
As Shiva’s dance makes heavens rend.
His Tandav shakes the cosmic frame,
An untamed force, an endless flame.
His eye of fire, fierce and vast,
Burns lust and pride to ash at last.
Yet in his gaze, a mercy flows,
To guide the heart through mortal woes.
He wears the sky, a boundless cloak,
Its stars in orbits vast awoke.
The Ganga crowns his tangled hair,
Her sacred waves his breath to share.
His third eye flared with signs dire,
And Kāma fell, consumed by fire.
As Parvati’s strands, soft and fine,
His locks glow red and blue, divine.
He slays the foes of soul’s repose—
Ego, desire, and death’s grim throes.
In him, all arts and joys entwine,
His path the way to truth divine.
His damaru’s beat, a cosmic call,
In Tandav’s dance, the worlds do fall.
Time bends, and forms in chaos blend,
All drawn to him, where all things end.
To him, all forms are but a play—
A clod, a gem, a night, a day.
No grief or joy can veil his sight,
He sees all beings as one light.
When shall I sing his name alone,
In mountain caves where winds have blown?
With every breath, his praise I’ll weave,
And in his flame, my soul shall leave.
This hymn, when chanted pure and true,
Brings peace no storm can pierce through.
The heart that sings with fervent will,
Shall know no fear, no doubt, no ill.
O Shiva, formless, yet the all,
The sun, the moon, the stars that call.
No wealth or power do I seek,
Your name alone my heart shall speak.
His footfall stirs the cosmic drum,
The stars align, their cycles hum.
In every beat, his dance holds sway,
And sets all souls ablaze always.
O Nataraja, fierce and free,
Your lifted foot brings liberty.
In Tandav’s fire, my pride I give,
In your name, I eternally live.
Om Namah Shivaya
---
The Tandav ends, the cosmos still,
This hymn by Ravana speaks my will.
