With the wide adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMR), clinical researchers and administrators are facing unique challenges in the conduct of clinical research in pediatric hospital settings.

Some of these problems include: Integration of research activities into clinical workflows in EMR; The regulatory requirements for differentiating the clinical research documentation in EMR; Clinical systems data availability for researchers (Sometimes "real-time" data); Facilitating the translation of the research outcomes from the lab into EMR workflows

At this talk, Sijo Thomas, RN, MSN, MBA, will explain the efforts by Stanford Children's Health Information Systems (IS) Department and the Clinical Research Support Office (CRSO) to address clinical research informatics challenges and the development of EMR functionalities for supporting clinical research.
