Love Duet (D'Angelo & Leonard)

Описание к видео Love Duet (D'Angelo & Leonard)

Two years ago today yours truly saw this live in cinemas and soaked my mask with tears of joy. The Met produced an abridged, English-language version of the beloved Pelly production, starring the stunning duo of Emily D'Angelo and Isabel Leonard. They sing the sublime love duet "Toi qui m'es apparue"--here, "You, the girl of my dreams"--in a charming (see what I did there) English translation by Kelley Rourke. I can only imagine the experience of the children seeing this for the first time.
The leading divas bring so much passion and yearning into the entire performance and especially this scene. I'm heartbroken I couldn't see them in the forest scene as it was cut from this performance to make the length more accessible for younger viewers. But it just makes me cherish what we do get all the more.
I know there's a lot of quibbles about opera in translation, but if it widens the audience and the translation is good as it is here, I have zero qualms myself. It was amazing to experience my beloved Cendrillon in my native language.
Enjoy the romantic, mysterious encounter of Cinderella and her Prince Charming from the 2022 revival of Pelly's magical production.
