Rudy Vallee ( 1901 - 1986) all-time great entertainer as crooner, saxophone player, bandleader and actor from late 1920s into the 1970s. The peak of his popularity was as a singing idol 1929 - 1931. His early trademark was singing into a megaphone. He led a good sweet band and had much success on radio and the movies. Led society band in Boston late 1927, to New York in 1928 where he landed a job at Heigh-Ho Club. Developed good entertaining group featuring college songs and novelties complete with props. "Heigh-ho everybody!" was his famous greeting. Billed as Rudy Vallee and his Connecticut Yankees. He played clarinet and alto sax early with the band. In 1929 he began a weekly radio show on NBC sponsored by Fleischmann's Yeast and it became a top show in the late 1930s. Periodically in movie musicals and usually played comedy roles as a stuffed-shirt, prude or millionaire. In the Coast Guard during World War II, where he led a band. Career waned in the 1950s but occasionally performed at night clubs, films, or TV from the 1950s until the 1970s.
