[Graphic] Fishing line cuts deep into seal's flesh

Two entanglements. Both are caused by fishing gear. Both seals are left with severe wounds.

The OCN team is at the Pelican Point hotspot. The first targeted seal struggles to walk with the amount of snoek line wrapped around his body. Kat and Wally carefully cut the snoek line from the seal's neck. A terrible wound is left behind. The second seal is also wrapped in fishing gear, a gillnet. The net has started cutting chunks from his body. We cannot imagine the amount of pain these animals were in. Both seals seem strong as they head to the water. Most of the entanglements we find originate from the fishing industry. 🦭
