This is Dr. Lisa Pruett. I'm a board certified dermatologist at the Center for Aesthetic and Laser Medicine at Trinity Dermatology for our patients with cystic acne we have many options available for treatment typically we'll start with prescription topical medications and then systemic treatments like antibiotics or isotretinoin for stubborn cystic acne. Morpheus 8 might be a great option for you and we have found that treating in a series of three sessions with Morpheus 8 can improve your cystic acne. And one of the reasons why we think this happens is because the radiofrequency energy is targeting the sebaceous glands. These are the same sebaceous glands we're trying to shrink down with isotretinoin better known as Accutane so it's another option for you.

If you decide to do Morpheus 8 treatments for your cystic acne you will come into the office we will put local topical numbing medication on your face to make sure the procedure is very comfortable. We will treat the area involved and then we will send you home on a prescription antibiotic that you'll take for 10 days after the treatment. This is important because you can have an initial flare because the treatment itself can cause some inflammation but the radiofrequency energy will be continuing to work on those sebaceous glands to minimize them so that your cystic acne improves it's recommended to do three treatments and so we expect after that third treatment to get the best result.
