In August of 2021, a group of people gathered in the late summer sun on the banks of the Spokane River to remember the legend of Coyote's Rocks and his triumph over an evil monster that was killing people and animals.

The epic battle took place near Upriver Drive in Spokane County and you can see huge boulders that the monster threw at Coyote and where they landed on the hillside and in the river.

in 2001, the Upriver Drive Improvement Project required the removal of some of these historically significant boulder so the road could be widened and improvements made to the Centennial Trail that stretches along the river. Knowing that the Spokane Tribe of Indians felt this loss deeply, a group of people came together in 2021 to record the story of Coyote's Rocks as told by a tribal elder. This group included member of the Spokane Tribe, Spokane County Public Works and Spokane County Commissioner Mary Kuney, who welcomed everyone to the gathering.
