Free Diving Kirra Reef

Описание к видео Free Diving Kirra Reef

Kirra Reef would have to be one of the best shore dives in the world.

We found that going out just on the turn from Low Tide to High Tide made for the easiest way to be able to swim out past the breaking waves, which was about 100m.

We then swam North East and aligned the rocks at the north end of the Kirra Surf Life Saving Club to Kirra Point. Around that location we could see a gradual drop of the sand and about another 50-80m swim north we found the edge of the reef. All in all it was about a 350-400m swim.

Once you are there the free diving is quite easy with the deepest areas being around 8m, and many parts of the reef are only 3-4m from the surface.

There is a bounty of bait fish, and you will see turtles, all manner of rays, toad fish, tropical reef fish, and during the whale migration you will hear them calling out to each other when you are under the water.

The swim back to shore we found easier to do with the incoming tide, which was so much easier than swimming back in on an outgoing tide.
