The NAME!
Exodus 3:10-15, Ezekiel 20:1-9, 40-44 – Part 3

Introduction
I won’t be asking you to remove your shoes and socks today, but we are still on very holy ground as we continue to study the meaning and significance of the name YHWH. Prepare yourself!!!

1.YHWH Calls His Servant into Service (Vv. 1-10)
2.YHWH Communicates His Name (Vv. 11- 15)
YHWH answered, “I AM who I AM.”
YHWH declared this is His name forever.
YHWH declared this is His ‘memorial to all generations’ (how He wants to be remembered by everyone, everywhere, for all of future human existence)
Jer. 16:21; Ps. 103:1, 105:1, 113:2-3, 119:55, 132; Prov. 18:10, 6828 times the name YHWH is in the Hebrew text of the Old Testament, Mt. 6:9 (Hallowed be Your name); 1 Tim. 1:17; Rev. 1:4, 8, 4:8, 11:17 (“who was and who is and who is to come”).
Ezekiel 20 – “As I live” (3 times), “that you may know that I am YHWH” (9 times), “for the sake of My name” (4 times).
3.YHWH Clarifies His Plan (Vv. 16-22)

Timeless Truth
YHWH is His NAME! It is vital that every Christian understand this foundational and fundamental truth of the universe. This has always been true – even before time as we know it began. It is true now, and YHWH’s Word makes it absolutely clear. It will be true forever. There will never be a time in any future age when YHWH’s name will be different or of lesser significance. And YHWH says that His name will be His ‘memorial’ to all generations. That means that there will never be a generation of beings who do not need to “remember” that YHWH is His name. YHWH has ‘doubled down’ on this matter that His name is really important and He wants everyone, everywhere on planet earth to know and to honor His name.

Living Lesson
I exhort you to read Ezekiel 20. Read it aloud. Read it several times. It will help you come to an appreciation of YHWH and how He feels about having His name profaned by His Children by living lives of wickedness and rebellion. But YHWH is also very clear in His word that He loves and blesses those of His children who revere and honor His name. “Bless YHWH, O my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy NAME!” (Psalm 103:1)
