Universal Studios Florida partnered up with Macy’s to present the Macy’s Holiday Parade in 2002. The parade featured giant balloons inspired by the Thanksgiving parade, but not the actual full-sized balloons, since they did not fit along Universal’s parade route. On November 18, 2017 the new and improved Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s debuted. It displayed floats from popular IPs like Despicable Me, Madagascar, and Shrek. Dancers and Macy’s balloons paraded down the street in between the floats. The balloons were created by Macy’s Studios and were manufactured by the Aerostar division of Raven Industries. The floats were built by the Nassal company and music was composed by Benoît Jutras. The 2017 holiday parade still runs today (2025).

0:07 Intro. A rotating snowflake on a float travels down the parade route displaying the title “Universal’s Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s”. Snow Fairies travel behind it followed by snowflake stiltwalkers. Two blue stars that say “Macy’s” on them float down the route.

1:10 Despicable Me. Performers dressed as Minions dance around with presents. Next, a Christmas tree of Minions rolls by followed by a Minion themed stocking balloon with a teddy bear (Tim?) in it. The next float has Gru, Lucy and the girls Margot, Edith, and Agnes waving in front of a skate shack. More dancers pass by and the last float in this group has the Minions riding a rocket sled, skiing, and playing with snow. A balloon of Bob the Minion holding a love letter finishes off this section.

2:32 Madagascar. The Penguins of Madagascar are in a plane float riding with a stack of presents. A penguin with a candy cane mallet floats by next. King Julien is on a throne in the next float, surrounded by presents. After that, a float goes by with friends from Madagascar: Alex, Gloria, Melvin, and Marty.

4:06 Shrek. This section begins with a balloon of Gingy holding gumdrop buttons. Next, the Three Little Pigs have constructed a candy house float. Three Blind Mice dancers entertain us followed by Donkey on a float of presents. He wants waffles. I was impressed with the Shrek wrapping paper on one of the gifts. A balloon of Donkey’s dragon spawn floats by and Far Far Away Village dancers with Puss in Boots waltz by next. Shrek is in the last float of this unit along with Princess Fiona and baby Felica. A smoke breathing dragon is on Shrek’s swamp house.

5:53 Closing. Robots, a clown, and a rubber duck dance down the road at the start of this section. A long, three car train rolls down the parade route with Macy’s elves Charlie, Kit, and C.J. in it. Wind-up toy dancers dazzle us followed by a building block float with a nutcracker and robot on it. The building blocks spell out T-O-Y-S. Soldier stiltwalkers march by followed by a nutcracker balloon, flying by in the snoap filled air. A reindeer float surrounded by trees glides by and then several reindeer on a house float go by. A trio of Santa stiltwalkers pass by. The final float is the big man himself, Santa Claus, in a sled on top of a house. He wishes everyone holiday cheer amidst the chimney smoke. Two gold Macy’s star balloons end the parade.
