Welcome to Thread Tech Tuesday where I answer your thread questions. I love all the threads! I play and experiment with the different weights and fibers in both my machine and hand-stitching adventures.

This week I have homework for you.

Your Personal Stitch Dictionary is one of the best tools you will ever have for your creative stitch journey with your sewing machine. It is the tool that my students hate to make but then thank me for later. With this tool at your fingertips, you will actually use those amazing stitches programmed into your machine.

Yes, it will take you quite a while to stitch, especially if you have a machine with 1000+ stitch combinations. But, all those stitches don't mean a thing if you never use them. The truth is that we have no idea what they actually look like based on the little card that comes with your machine.

I suggest you stitch out a few stitches every day or get a really great audio book to listen to. Maybe you could pay a teenage to do it for you??

Supplies:
solid black and white cotton fabric
tear-away stabilizer (light or medium weight)
medium value thread color - regular sewing weight cotton thread I used yellow

STEPS
1. Prepare two strips of fabric. One solid black and one solid white. Cut 4” by the full width of the fabric. Seam the fabrics together along the entire width, press seam open or to one side.
2. Back the strip with a piece of tear away stabilizer.
3. Choose a medium value thread color. A medium value will help show if the stitch looks better with high or low contrast.
4. Begin with stitch number 1 and stitch it across both the white and black fabric. Note the stitch number with a permanent pen and repeat until you have finished all of your stitches. Be consistent in marking the stitch number either above or below the actual stitch so you aren't confused later.
