The Indian Contract Act, 1972, the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, the Trademark Act, 1999, the Copyright Act, 1957, the Patent Act, 1970, the Design Act, 2000, the Specific Relief Act, 1963, the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, the Transfer of Property Act, 1882, the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961, the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996, and the Information Technology Act, 2000 are some of the laws that govern the franchise industry.

Although there is no requirement for franchise registration in India, trademark is a vital aspect of brand expansion. Disclosure norms and franchise agreements are mandatory clauses that must be included in the agreement with the consent of both parties. Franchisees must be aware of restrictions that a franchisor can impose on sales, income, data transfer, and other business queries mentioned in the agreement paper.
