Nick Tann’s Fresh Music Fix – Episode 13
We kick off this week with the brilliant Dead Hazards and Remorse from their brand new album Saline. I know we played them recently, but this album deserves more noise and I make no apology for shouting about it again. If you want to dive deeper, head to their Bandcamp page for some excellent tracks.
Next up is the wonderful Rear Window with their Scissor Sisteresque (yes, that is now a real word) Rocket Men. It is hypnotic, charming and exactly why we have played them three times on my previous podcast Is This Thing On. They have a small but perfectly formed website that is well worth a visit.
WindowHead follow with Todd, Honey, a gloriously messy, proggy, shoegaze delight. They ticked every box for both of us. Based in Brighton, home of all things eclectic, they describe their sound as a mix of effects-heavy guitars, unconventional time signatures, extreme dynamics and chaotic rhythms. If you hear shades of At The Drive-In or Glassjaw, you are not imagining it.
We finish with Steve Young and The Real Time Players and their track Come Around. Chris had plenty to say about them in the show. They are on tour with dates at The Duke in Ipswich, the Corn Exchange in Hertford supporting Chantel McGregor, a possible slot at the Isle of Wight Festival, Todd in the Hole Festival, Old Town Live in Ware and more. I would have loved to add more links for these bands, but some of the names are so unhelpfully unbandnamey that even Google struggled. This is why I am always banging on about original names or at least having a proper website.
