Bimble around Foggintor Quarry. The quarry itself was decommissioned in 1938 but before that time the granite from here was used in the construction of local buildings, such as the prison, and famous London landmarks such as Nelsons Column and London Bridge. Before the building of the Dartmoor railway the stone was transported by horse draw wagons along a purposely built tramway, the remains of which can still be seen. There are a number of buildings on site which are now in ruins, these include a foundry, a smithy, stables, an office and tool store house, a powder store, the manger’s house, a cottage and a chapel.
