I made a mistake in the video. Getting old and the CRS ya know. I picked this up in Dayton about a month ago, 2024. I recently picked up 3 other amps at a recent local swap and had got that mixed up with this one.
Anyway, the 160-10L is a four 572B amp but runs them at 1800v on the plate. This is low for 572B tubes but it originally came with 811A's and the 1800 would be great for 811's but as most people know, 811's are wimpy. 572's are a lot more rugged and most people just go with the 572's even though they won't produce full power at 1800v's. 572's like to run on 2700v's and the Dentron Clipperton runs them on just that.
Other than the low voltage that is not switchable, its just a basic no frills amp. Good size transformer, lots of room in the case, decent fan/circulation, has a switch that changes the Bias from SSB to continuous, single meter reads Plate Volts or Amps. With turn on, the On/Off switch turns on a big relay which is what turns on the amp. It really needs this as no step start and no soft start, so it really pulls some amps at turn on and that little switch wouldn't be able to handle the amps. I also have it on a dedicated 110 line and was running it on that even though this amp has dual voltage, will run on 110 or 220 by changing jumpers on a terminal strip.
Amp does a little over a 1000 peak and 650 average with 200 peak 50 average going in. No auto key, uses a foot pedal. Runs cool and clean if ran right. I'm not a huge fan of 572B tubes, but I do like this amp. Probably will add a soft start if I keep it.
