‘Quaternions’ is the second ‘single’ released from TENCHPRESS’ third album, TOMBMAGIC. Much like ‘Muscle Up’, the first ‘single’, ‘Quaternions’ was one of the album’s lodestars - infecting subsequent tunes made with its blank, clinical chug. TOMBMAGIC is released digitally on the 19th of August and as a cassette on the 2nd of September by Cruel Nature Records.

‘Quaternions’ is a self-referential ode to playing things safe - “don’t fuck with the formula”, as Mike Love might once have said. The vocals have a flat snarl that recalls the purely interior, uptight voice you reserve for nobody else but yourself, rolling over in your mind ideas about work ethic, boredom, and Bristol. That opening bass report and dry percussion chug informed the rest of the album in their very squeezed, pathetic churn.

The auto-tune that’s a feature of nigh-on all TENCHPRESS music makes an appearance, but it’s so processed to be almost indistinguishable from the growling bassline made from a free soft synth. The whole thing sounds like it exists in a crappy plastic and metal box, and it’s meant to be that way.
