Skyscraper was no match for the third entry in the Hotel Transylvania series. Hotel Transylvania 3 took in $44 million on its opening weekend, the second-best opening in the series. The animated feature also took $46.4 million from overseas for a global start of over $100 million. Ant-Man and the Wasp earned $28.9 million for second and Skyscraper faltered badly taking in $25.5 million.

According to Out.com, Scarlett Johansson has dropped out of Rub & Tug, the movie that would have seen her play a transgender man. She said in part in a statement:
"In light of recent ethical questions raised surrounding my casting as Dante Tex Gill, I have decided to respectfully withdraw my participation in the project. Our cultural understanding of transgender people continues to advance, and I’ve learned a lot from the community since making my first statement about my casting and realize it was insensitive," the actress continued. "I have great admiration and love for the trans community and am grateful that the conversation regarding inclusivity in Hollywood continues."

According to THR, Cate Shortland, the Australian filmmaker best known for the Nazi drama Lore, has signed on to helm Black Widow. The move ends the search that lasted over half a year as the studio met with over 70 directors in order to find its ideal candidate. A female filmmaker was the priority even as the search stalled at one point; with the studio looking at male helmers as well.

THR reports that after starts and stops, Sony Pictures has finally reunited the cast of 2009’s 'Zombieland for a Part 2 - to be directed by Ruben Fleischer, who helmed the original. Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin are all in with original writers ( and Deadpool writers) Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese also returning.

Hot off the heels of her celebrated role in Black Panther, Danai Gurira entering early talks to star in the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong, and circling a potential role in the Star Trek sequel, this according to Deadline.
