Context of piece within the plot: The Marschallin, Octavian, and Sophie are alone. The Marschallin previously predicted that Octavian would leave her for a younger love one day. The day has come, and she accepts that Octavian and Sophie have fallen in love. She takes her leave, while Sophie and Octavian embrace and and declare their love one more time.
