Formed by the twins from Rio de Janeiro, Thadeu and Raphael Maia, the Duo was originated during the discipline Chamber Music, belonging to the Bachelor’s Degree at UNIRIO (Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro), in 2007. Since then, the Duo has become the priority in their lives. The brothers started their studies of music in 1998, with the electric guitar. The classical guitar studies began in 2002, with the teacher Mara Lúcia, at Villa-Lobos School of Music. In 2004, Thadeu continued his studies under the guidance of the teacher Maria Haro, at UNIRIO, where later, in 2006, Raphael also began to be guided by the same teacher. In the year of 2009 the twins enhanced their knowledge about electric guitar with Nelson Faria. Both brothers graduated at UNIRIO, in Bachelor’s Degree in Classic Guitar. They have already participated in several master classes with great guitarists, including: Jorge Caballero, Pavel Steidl, José Antonio Escobar, Andreas Von Wangenheim and César Amaro. Currently, the brothers dedicate themselves entirely to the Duo, being oriented by Maria Haro. Duo Maia has received compliments and incentives by names as: Sérgio Abreu and Luis Carlos Barbieri.
