Watch in real time how quickly the temporary flood barrier can be deployed across the River Poulter, holding the river back. The barrier used in the video is a WL 2050.
It is very hard to simulate a flood, and therefore we worked with the Environment Agency to obtain permission to damn the River Poulter to demonstrate the Water-Gate barrier. Flooding is the biggest issue the UK faces as a result of climate change, and 1/6 of homes in the U.K are at risk of flooding.
The Water-Gate is a temporary flood barrier which is unique in the way that it self deploys. You will notice in the demo that as soon as the barrier is rolled out, it self deploys. It uses the weight of the water to hold the water back. The water lifts the top of the barrier whilst weighing the base down. The river base is incredibly rocky and uneven, which shows the versatility of the barrier to mould to the surface.
The Water-Gate is highly portable and takes up barely any storage space, so is ideal for emergency situations where access and time is limited.
