The US president Trump and Russian President Putin meet at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska.
President Putin received a red carpet welcome from the U.S. government.
He was accompanied by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and two other senior officials.
During the meeting, discussions focused on U.S.–Russia relations and the ongoing war in Ukraine.
This meeting was held for 3 hours.
After the talks, Trump and Putin held a joint press conference.
Putin remarked that he agreed with Trump’s view on Ukraine’s security.
Trump said everyone is working hard to end the brutal war between Russia and Ukraine.
He confirmed that President Zelensky will visit the White House on Monday afternoon.
If all goes according to plan, Trump said they will arrange for another meeting that includes President Putin.
He added that if such a meeting takes place, millions of lives could be saved.
Speaking to the press, Trump described the meeting with Putin as good.
But, he clarified that the three-hour discussion did not result in any final decision regarding a ceasefire in Ukraine.
He added that the responsibility now rests with President Zelensky.
While European countries could be involved to some extent, Trump stressed that the matter is ultimately Zelensky’s responsibility.
