For all you mothers out there.....

This poem is a vivid, tender, and slightly humorous portrayal of the breastfeeding journey—specifically the confusion, exhaustion, and devotion that accompany it.

FINICKY CAT

Put to the test like a finicky cat. One which that plays with the nipple, creates a little ripple inside Missy's breast.

Milking machine. No need to worry, every three hours she produces plenty.

More than enough for little Sweet Pea. So much that we have to freeze it.

All the vitamins and nutrients she needs. All the requirements for each feed to produce a healthy baby.

It's never easy from one breast to another just to appease her.

Missy works hard, tender nipples in all. It's going to be a long haul.

Unlatched again, cries pour out, now we are in doubt about her weight gain.

Minutes later, a loud bowel movement. But we must cater to her as if her students.

She is the teacher, we sit in the bleachers and watch her game. We take notes on her every move.

Latched again, now we know in the future, it wasn't a finicky cat but a baby with gas.
