Tu’i Mata Moana Fish Market
Tu’i Mata Moana is the Fish Market. Tiled stalls line the edge of Faua Wharf with a selection of tropical fish, wrapped-up crabs, bags of squid, oysters, seaweed and much more for sale. Although open throughout the week, the best time to visit is on Saturday morning when extra seafood is brought in to serve the bustling locals hoping to get some good ingredients for their Sunday umu. Fish markets can also be found on other island groups, such as at the main wharves in Vava’u and Ha’apai, but this is more of a Saturday morning fish haul than an informal fish market.
