Haydn: String Quartets, Vol. 6 Op. 1 & 2

On this release, the Buchbergers have recorded Haydn’s Quartet Divertimenti Op. 1 and Op. 2, called ‘Cassationen’ by the composer himself. By developing the material in these early works Haydn already demonstrated his innovative powers. This music goes beyond being mere entertainment.

There are 10 pieces on this release, all having five movements, mainly based on dances such as the Minuet. This music may seem easy to perform, but its transparency actually makes it treacherous for the musicians. Once more the Buchberger Quartet succeeds in putting Haydn’s mastery across in inspired and detailed performances.
